About Me
I am a Mama and a Sleep and Well-Being Specialist. I have been in your shoes as a mom, and I know how it feels to be exhausted and looking for answers to sleep challenges that feels right for you and your little one! I am shaped by my personal and professional experiences. My education is rooted in child development, attachment sciences and family relationships. I have a Master’s degree in Systemic Psychotherapy (Family Therapy), Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Post Graduate diploma in Play Therapy. But most importantly I am a Mama to a 5-year-old little boy who is the main reason behind my venture into the world of sleep!
We currently live in Charlotte, North Carolina. I am originally from South Africa and have lived and worked in London, UK for 17 years prior to our move to the US. I have enjoyed working with families from all walks of life over the past 20 years, including foster and adoptive families. I have extensive experience in supporting families from various cultural backgrounds with parenting, family relationships, adult and children’s mental health and well-being.
I have always loved to study and do research in my work with families, and it was no different when my son was born. I realized despite all my years of studying that I knew very little about sleep and sleep science. As a new mother, exhausted and anxious, I found myself completely overwhelmed by all the different messages I was receiving from outside influences about what ‘normal’ sleep should look like.
I was fortunate to navigate my way through all the overwhelming information by listening to my heart, drawing from my knowledge around child attachment, child development and by responding to my son’s needs day and night! I felt at peace following my own intuition and seeing positive changes with regards to sleep without compromising my attachment relationship with him. I was able to frame sleep from a developmentally normal perspective, but things also changed significantly for me as I learned more about the social, physical and emotional transition to becoming a mother.
It has since this time become a passion of mine to support families to get more sleep without feeling that separation-based techniques or ‘waiting it out’ are the only options available to them. The Baby Led Sleep Approach and certification delivered on all my hopes for a course, and I loved learning from the experts in the field of infant sleep, health, and mental health.
Growing Roots Consultancy was born, and I truly believe that helping you to get to the root cause of sleep challenges could help you to thrive and not only survive during the most crucial years of your children’s lives and beyond!
I have the experience and expertise to offer you a holistic and supportive service. I will encourage you to follow your parenting instincts and to respond to your child’s needs, always!
